Von der Leyen Expresses EU’s Support to Portugal Amidst Wildfires

Lisbon: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday expressed the EU’s support to Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, whose country is battling against devastating wildfires. Von der Leyen conveyed the EU’s solidarity and commitment to assisting Portugal during this challenging time.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Von der Leyen, in a post on X, stated that she spoke to Montenegro to assure him of Europe’s solidarity in light of the terrible wildfires in Portugal. She emphasized the EU’s ongoing support for Portugal’s efforts in fighting the blazes and in preventing future fires.

Von der Leyen further mentioned that the European Commission is prepared to provide financial assistance for recovery efforts through the European Solidarity Fund. This commitment is part of the EU’s broader strategy to support member states in times of natural disasters.
