University of Nicosia to Launch UNIC Athens Campus in 2025

Athens: The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has approved the establishment of the University of Nicosia’s (UNIC) non-profit branch, UNIC Athens, in Greece. This decision strengthens the university’s academic partnership with Greece, with the inaugural class set to commence in Fall 2025 at a specially designed campus in Ellinikon, Athens.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the University of Nicosia, Cyprus’s largest research university by student enrolment, has a significant Greek student body, surpassing any university outside Greece over the past decade. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE WUR) for 2025, UNIC is ranked on par with Greece’s highest-ranked public university.

UNIC has submitted nine undergraduate programmes to the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education for accreditation, aiming for an October 2025 start. These programmes include Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Computer Science, Data Science, Psychology, Business Administration, Accounting, and Marketing Management. Additionally, two postgraduate programmes, an MBA and a PhD in Medical Sciences, are planned for a 2026 launch.

The university’s Medical School has formed a partnership with the Hellenic Healthcare Group (HHG), which will serve as its exclusive university hospital network in Greece. HHG’s flagship hospitals will be used for clinical teaching and research.

UNIC Athens will be the sole university within the £8 billion Ellinikon smart city, with a designated 75,000 m² space for its campus. The campus will incorporate AI, robotics, and wellness technologies. A 12,500 m² facility has been constructed for the Fall 2025 semester, expected to be the first LEED-certified university building in Greece. Further phases of development are planned for completion in 2028 and 2031.

UNIC Athens will also be integral to the ‘Evolve’ Research and Innovation initiative, focusing on using Artificial Intelligence to enhance human health and longevity. Further partnerships in this research area will be announced in Fall 2025.
