University of Nicosia Achieves Global Top 600 Ranking in Sustainability Impact Ratings

Nicosia: The University of Nicosia (UNIC) has been recognized in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, securing a place in the 401-600 band globally among 1,646 universities evaluated worldwide. This achievement highlights UNIC's prominence among higher education institutions in Cyprus and Greece, while also showcasing its growing international presence.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the ranking underscores UNIC's strength in specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, where it secured a position in the 101-200 band globally. Additionally, UNIC achieved a 301-400 result in SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

UNIC's notable performance in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals is significant, as this indicator is highly valued in the overall methodology of the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings. This reflects the university's capability to forge impactful academic, research, and societal partnerships at both local and international levels.

Professor Philippos Pouyioutas, Rector of the University of Nicosia, commented on the achievement, stating that the placement in the global Top 600 reflects the university's ongoing commitment to creating meaningful impact through education, research, outreach, and collaboration. The strong performance in key areas such as Reduced Inequalities and Sustainable Cities and Communities emphasizes UNIC's dedication to contributing to society and the global sustainability agenda.

Among universities in Cyprus, UNIC stands out as one of the few included in the global Top 600. Its recognition across Cyprus and Greece for strong performance in sustainability-focused results enhances its reputation as an institution that blends academic excellence with social contribution and international engagement.
