Nicosia: University of Cyprus Associate Professor Thomas Papadopoulos has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair by the European Commission to enhance teaching and research in European Business Law.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Jean Monnet Chair, titled 'New Dimensions on EU Business Law: companies and markets in the process of integration' (EUCompAkt), will focus on European company law, capital markets law, and competition law. The 3-year initiative will be hosted at the University of Cyprus's Department of Law, offering courses, seminars, research, publications, conferences, and events. These activities will also extend to academics and students from other departments, addressing the modern challenges in European Business Law, a field pivotal to the EU's economic framework.
The European Commission's award underscores the importance of specialised teaching in EU company law, capital markets law, and competition law. These areas are crucial for the integration of the internal market, necessitating a thorough understanding of the intricate dynamics and challenges involved.
Funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the Jean Monnet Chairs aim to enhance European Union studies within higher education.
