UNFICYP Increases Patrols in Pyla After Turkish Cypriot Incursion

Cyprus: United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) has stepped up patrols in Pyla and maintains a visible presence on the ground, following the observation of "unauthorized entry by Turkish Cypriot security personnel" into the United Nations buffer zone.

According to Cyprus News Agency, UNFICYP emphasized in a post on X that any unauthorized entry, presence, or activity within the buffer zone constitutes a violation of the Mission's mandate. The post reiterated the importance of respecting the Mission's mandate to maintain stability in this sensitive area.

UNFICYP has been actively engaging with all relevant parties to restore the status quo ante and to prevent actions that could negatively impact calm and stability in the region. The Force stated that maintaining calm and stability across the buffer zone is its highest priority.
