Nicosia: The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Cyprus stood at 3.9% in July 2026, marking a slight increase from June's 3.8% but a decrease from 4.3% in July 2025. The data was published by Eurostat on Tuesday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Eurostat estimates that the number of unemployed individuals in Cyprus reached 21,000 in July, compared to 20,000 in June and 23,000 in the same month last year. The statistics also reveal a gender disparity in unemployment rates. Unemployment among men rose to 3.7% in July from 3.6% in June, while the rate for women increased to 4.2% from 4.0%. In July 2025, the rates were 4.1% for men and 4.7% for women.
Regarding youth unemployment for individuals under 25 in Cyprus, Eurostat did not provide figures for July 2026. However, in June, the youth unemployment rate was 11.9%, with approximately 3,000 young people unemployed, compared to 13.0% and 4,000 individuals, respectively, in July 2025.
At the European Union level, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.1% in July 2026, remaining stable compared to June and slightly up from 6.0% in July 2025. In the euro area, unemployment also remained unchanged on a monthly basis at 6.4%, compared with 6.3% in July of the previous year.
Eurostat estimates that 13.516 million individuals were unemployed in the EU in July, with 11.264 million of these in the euro area. Compared to June, the number of unemployed people decreased by 41,000 in the EU while remaining unchanged in the euro area. However, on an annual basis, unemployment increased by 296,000 in the EU and by 175,000 in the euro area.
