Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Cyprus Colin Stewart briefed the members of the bi-communal political parties that meet in Ledra Palace, on the current political situation of the Cyprus issue.
According to the Joint Communiqué of the leaders and representatives of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties participating in the bi-communal dialogue under the auspices of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia, they held on Wednesday a discussion on the current state of the Cyprus issue with Colin Stewart, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, and Deputy Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General on Cyprus.
The political parties, that meet regularly at the Ledra Palace Hotel say in their Joint Communique that Colin Stewart briefed the representatives of the political parties on the current political situation, following the recent trilateral informal meeting of the
Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar hosted by United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres on 15 October in New York.
The next meeting of the leaders and representatives of the political parties will be held on 27 November 2024 with Republican Turkish Party (CTP) as the hosting party.
The regular meetings take place under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy in Nicosia. Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
