Trkiye's natural gas imports decreased by 22% in May 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from Trkiye's energy watchdog on Tuesday. Natural gas imports in May decreased to around 2.88 billion cubic meters (bcm) from approximately 3.69 bcm in the same month of 2023, Trkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report. In May, 2.33 bcm of imports were made through pipelines and 545 million cubic meters (mcm) was imported via liquefied natural gas (LNG). Azerbaijan was the largest natural gas supplier to Trkiye, providing 1 bcm, while Russia and Iran followed with 734 mcm and 593 mcm, respectively. Algeria exported 371 mcm of LNG to Trkiye, the largest volume recorded during May. The country's total gas consumption dropped to 3.20 bcm in May, down by 26% compared to the same month in 2023. Household consumption decrease by 53.3% to 851 mcm in May, while gas consumption in power plants fell by 20% to 633 mcm during the same period.
