Nicosia: Tourism revenue for the period January-May 2026 is estimated at £798.2 million, compared with £955.8 million during the corresponding period in 2025, representing a decrease of 16.5%, according to data published on Thursday by the Statistical Service. Although the first two months of the year recorded higher revenue than the corresponding months of last year, revenue has been lower since March, with the decline being less pronounced in May.
According to Cyprus News Agency, specifically, based on the results of the Passengers Survey, tourism revenue in May 2026 reached £355.2 million, compared with £373.3 million in May 2025, marking a decrease of 4.8%.
In terms of expenditure analysis, the Statistical Service reports that the average expenditure per person was £779.42 in May 2026, remaining at the same level as in May 2025 (£779.08). Tourists from the United Kingdom, the largest tourist market with 36.3% of the total tourists in May 2026, spent on average £102.23 per day. Meanwhile, tourists from Israel, the second-largest market during the specific month with 11.8% of the total tourists, spent on average £178.18. Tourists from Poland, the third-largest market with 8.2%, spent on average £85.41 per day.
According to the data presented by the Statistical Service, compared with May of last year, the only markets that recorded an increase in the number of tourists were Belgium, Israel, Lebanon, and Poland.
