Paris: Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis has engaged in a series of discussions in Paris as part of Cyprus' participation in the IFTM 2026 international tourism exhibition. Leading a Cypriot delegation, Koumis expressed optimism about the improvement in air connectivity between Cyprus and France, anticipating an increase in French tourists next year.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Koumis conducted significant meetings with senior tourism executives to discuss the French market's performance in Cyprus over recent years. Special emphasis was placed on 2026, a year marked by decreased French tourism due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The discussions highlighted expectations for a substantial increase in 2027, attributed to the rise in available airline seats.

Efforts to upgrade and adapt Cyprus's tourism offerings to meet the preferences of French visitors, along with promotional strategies, were key topics during the meetings. Koumis also participated in the exhibition's opening ceremony upon the invitation of his French counterpart, Serge Papin, who subsequently visited the Cyprus pavilion.

Koumis stated that the French market is crucial for Cyprus's tourism sector, having re-emerged in recent years with promising growth potential. He emphasized the importance of improved air connectivity between France and Cyprus as a vital factor for market expansion.

Highlighting the enhanced air travel links, Koumis noted, "We now expect more visitors from France next year. Our responsibility is to provide excellent hospitality."

Additionally, Koumis met with his Egyptian counterpart, Sherif Fathy, to affirm the strong tourism relationship between Cyprus and Egypt and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration.

During his time in Paris, Koumis addressed French media, showcasing Cyprus's unique tourism advantages, the Deputy Ministry's efforts to promote specialized tourism forms, and the high quality of Cyprus's tourism infrastructure and services, while also acknowledging the recent tourism challenges faced by Cyprus.

The IFTM Top Resa exhibition is recognized as one of the most prestigious tourism events, held annually in Paris, drawing thousands of industry professionals.
