The Sky is the Limit, President Christodoulides Says on Cyprus-Egypt Cooperation at EGYPES Conference

Cairo: The sky is the limit when it comes to Cyprus-Egypt cooperation, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday at the EGYPES 2026 Conference, held in Cairo. Cyprus and Egypt are uniquely positioned as connectors between regions to deliver in times of crisis, he noted.

According to Cyprus News Agency, in his address, President Christodoulides noted that Cairo is his 'second home', acknowledging his family roots in Alexandria. He highlighted that this was his sixth visit as President, underscoring the strength of the friendship and partnership between the two nations, particularly in strategic sectors like energy.

President Christodoulides also mentioned the signing last year of two significant agreements concerning the development of the Aphrodite and Cronos gas fields, and expressed his satisfaction with the signing of a Framework Agreement between Cyprus and Egypt, marking a crucial step towards the commercialisation of their gas resources.

The President emphasized that the current regional crisis threatens stability and reshapes the global energy landscape. He stressed that energy security is not just an economic issue but also a matter of national security, regional stability, and strategic autonomy. Strengthening preparedness against geopolitical and energy disruptions is of 'very urgent' importance, he stated, noting that this reality guides Cyprus' EU Presidency and aims to have energy as a core pillar of the EU-Egypt partnership.

Highlighting the necessity for stronger partnerships to mitigate risks through diversification, shared infrastructure, and secure, affordable energy supply, President Christodoulides asserted that Cyprus and Egypt are uniquely positioned to act as connectors between regions during crises. He expressed confidence that their partnership could convert uncertainty into stability, stability into opportunity, and opportunity into prosperity, affirming the continued close cooperation between the two countries.

In conclusion, President Christodoulides reiterated that the sky is the limit when it comes to Cyprus-Egypt cooperation.
