Nicosia: The share of people aged 25 to 34 in Cyprus who had completed tertiary education reached 60% in 2025, placing the country fourth among EU Member States, according to data published by Eurostat on Thursday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the corresponding share in Cyprus was 41.3% in 2005, meaning that it increased by 18.7 percentage points over a 20-year period. Cyprus also recorded a significant gender gap in 2025. Some 69.1% of women aged 25-34 had completed tertiary education, placing Cyprus third among EU Member States, while the corresponding share among men was 51.8%, the fourth highest in the EU.
At EU level, the share of young people aged 25-34 with a tertiary education qualification increased from 27.2% in 2005 to 44.8% in 2025, representing a rise of 17.6 percentage points. This development brings the EU close to the target set under the European Education Area strategic framework, under which at least 45% of people aged 25-34 should have a tertiary education qualification by 2030.
Eurostat also records a significant gender gap, as in 2025, 50.5% of women aged 25-34 in the EU had completed tertiary education, compared with 39.3% of men.
