Nicosia: The Swiss Football Association has chosen Cyprus as the new destination for its referees' winter training camp, breaking a 35-year tradition of training elsewhere. This shift enhances Cyprus's reputation as a sports tourism hub, highlighted by Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis.
According to Cyprus News Agency, approximately 100 Swiss referees, including UEFA Elite category officials who oversee major competitions like the UEFA Champions League, are currently participating in training sessions in Cyprus. This initiative aligns with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism's incentive scheme that aims to attract foreign sports teams and federations to the island during the winter season.
