Strong Westerly Winds and Rough Seas Expected Around Cyprus

Nicosia: A cold air mass accompanied by a strong westerly airflow is anticipated to affect Cyprus, bringing mainly cloudy weather with local showers and isolated thunderstorms. According to Cyprus News Agency, these conditions are expected to weaken from the afternoon onward, but a warning has been issued for strong to near gale force winds affecting various coastal regions. The Cyprus Department of Meteorology's forecast indicates that southwest to northwest winds ranging from fresh to near gale force will affect the western, northern, and parts of the southern coasts. The state of the sea is anticipated to be up to rough, with some areas experiencing very rough conditions. Particularly, the western coast will face west to northwest winds reaching up to 8 Beaufort at times, with rough to very rough seas expected throughout the day, gradually calming to rough conditions during the night. The south coast will also experience morning winds from the southwest to west at 6 Beaufort, with conditions at times re aching moderate to rough. As the day progresses, the winds will shift to the northwest and ease slightly by night. Meanwhile, the east coast will encounter moderate winds, with occasional increases to moderate to rough conditions in the afternoon. The north coast will face the strongest winds early in the day, with southwest to northwest winds reaching up to 7 Beaufort and rough to very rough seas, which will gradually ease into moderate to rough conditions by night. The sea surface temperature is recorded at 19°C, and visibility is generally good but may reduce to moderate or poor during showers.
