Stormy Weather Conditions Expected Off the Coasts of Cyprus

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, predicting unsettled weather conditions from 0600 on February 17, 2026, until 0600 on February 18, 2026. The forecast covers an area extending 8 kilometers seawards and indicates that weak low pressure is influencing the region. According to Cyprus News Agency, the weather will be mainly cloudy with the potential for isolated showers or thunderstorms, particularly over the west and north coasts. Visibility is expected to be moderate but may become poor at times due to dust in suspension. The sea surface temperature is currently at 18°C, and no warnings have been issued. The forecast details specific wind and sea conditions for different coastal areas. The west coast will experience southwest to west winds of Beaufort scale 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5 in the morning, with sea conditions ranging from slight to moderate. By night, winds will intensify to Beaufort scale 6, making the sea moderate to roug h. On the south coast, southwest to west winds of Beaufort scale 4 are expected, increasing to 5 to 6 in the afternoon. The sea state will vary from slight to moderate, becoming moderate to rough at night as winds reach Beaufort scale 6. The east coast will have smoother conditions in the morning with southwest to west winds of Beaufort scale 3 to 4, but conditions will become more challenging as winds increase to 6 by night, leading to moderate sea conditions. For the north coast, morning winds will be southwest to west at Beaufort scale 3 to 4, with offshore winds reaching Beaufort scale 4. The sea state will be slight to moderate, worsening to moderate to rough by night as winds strengthen to Beaufort scale 6.
