Nicosia: The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) is organising a special anniversary conference to mark 30 years of supervision on April 29 at the Hilton Nicosia.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the opening address of the conference will be delivered by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. The event will also feature a high-level discussion between Verena Ross, Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), and Jean-Paul Servais, Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), focusing on key topics such as regulation, new products, and the evolution of the markets.
Renowned artificial intelligence expert and author, Huy Nguyen Trieu, will deliver a keynote speech on the third wave of artificial intelligence. This will be followed by a panel discussion on artificial intelligence, featuring Carlo Comporti, Commissioner of CONSOB, Claude Marx, Director General of the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), and Dr. Vassiliki Lazarakou, Chair of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission.
As noted, since 1996, CySEC has evolved into a recognised authority in capital markets supervision, investment services regulation, and investor protection. Over the past 30 years, it has overseen the significant growth of the Cyprus capital market and the expansion of regulated entities operating in an increasingly complex European and international financial environment.
In his remarks, CySEC Chair Dr. George Theocharides said that 'this is a very special milestone for CySEC, giving us the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to continuous improvement and modernisation of the sector.' He added that the conference brings together European regulators to discuss recent developments and the future of financial markets, with investor protection remaining at the heart of their collective efforts.
It is further stated that the event will be followed by an Honorary Ceremony, honouring former CySEC Chairs who have contributed to its growth, and a Cocktail Reception. CySEC has created a new logo - featuring pearl-like characteristics - to mark its 30th anniversary, and further initiatives will follow as part of the anniversary celebrations, the statement concludes.
