Nicosia: Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Chairman of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, presented the journey, philosophy, and contribution of the Stelios Bi-Communal Awards for Business Co-operation in Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this presentation occurred on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, at the foundation's headquarters in Nicosia, as part of the preparations for the upcoming Awards Ceremony, scheduled for 8 June 2026.
The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation stated in a press release that the event highlighted the business community's role in fostering cooperation and stability, contributing to Cyprus's economic development. Attendees included representatives from the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce. Notable figures such as the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative in Cyprus, Khasim Diagne, Ambassador of Greece, Konstantinos Kollias, and British High Commissioner, Michael Tatham, were also present.
Sir Haji-Ioannou, speaking via Zoom, emphasized the enduring value of the Awards, noting their contribution to lasting peace on the island and economic progress for both communities. He stated that the Bi-Communal Awards serve as a reminder of the potential for cooperation between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot entrepreneurs to build lasting relationships of trust.
The Stelios Bi-Communal Awards, a significant institution for bi-communal cooperation in Cyprus, celebrate 16 years in 2026. The total value of the Awards, including this year's amount of £500,000, has reached £5.3 million.
Rena Rouvitha Panou, a Board Member of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, expressed the event's objective to inspire and motivate bi-communal teams to participate in the awards. The £500,000 prize fund is intended as financial support and ongoing incentive for bi-communal business efforts.
The event concluded with a Cocktail Dinner, allowing guests to exchange views and discuss future cooperation between the two communities. The 2026 Bi-Communal Cooperation Awards Ceremony will be held in June, attended by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
