Nicosia: The laboratory results so far from all districts are negative as regards foot-and-mouth disease, except for the infected areas, where seven more positive units were detected, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry reports that tracing and sampling in the infected areas continue. The laboratory results have shown seven more positive units of goats and sheep, totaling approximately 2,610 animals. These include two units in Dromolaxia Meneou, one in Kiti, one in Athienou, and three in Geri, bringing the total number of infected units to 66 in Larnaca (57) and Nicosia (9).
The second phase of cattle vaccinations has reached 65.35%, while goats and sheep vaccinations stand at 38.75%. In terms of pigs, 73% of the units located within the infected areas have been vaccinated so far.
Additionally, the Ministry states that compensation payments are ongoing for the quantities of milk that have been destroyed by the infected units. Payments have also begun for the animal feed destroyed by these infected units, the Ministry concludes.
