Services Closer to Citizens, Yiorkadjis Says at Opening of Tylliria Service Hub

Nicosia: Geographic distance cannot be a barrier to equal access and service, President of the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (NDLGO) Constantinos Yiorkadjis said on Friday during the launch of the Organisation's new Service Hub in Kato Pyrgos, in the Tylliria area. He stressed that the Organisation has chosen to bring its services to the remote area rather than asking residents to travel to Nicosia.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the operation of the Hub in Kato Pyrgos represents an important step for the Tylliria area and a practical implementation of one of the key principles of the Local Government Reform, that services should be close to citizens, regardless of where they live.

The NDLGO President said that the new Hub makes it easier for residents to access the Organisation's services, while strengthening direct service provision and technical support in the area.

He also referred to the decision to staff the Hub with people who live in the area, with the aim, wherever possible, of helping to retain young people and families in the Kato Pyrgos community.

At the same time, Yiorkadjis announced that, since taking responsibility for the community's water supply, the NDLGO has invested approximately pound 200,000 to address problems in the water network.

Nikos Kleanthous, President of the Tylliria Cluster of Communities and Community Council President of Kato Pyrgos, described the opening of the Hub as a significant development which, he said, provides tangible support to residents and brings services closer to the public.
