Nicosia: A response must also be voiced from the other side in the face of Turkish threats concerning the Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos said on Thursday, stressing that he could not intervene in Greece's political affairs.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Keravnos, speaking at the Ministry of Finance, responded to a question about the stance of Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis towards Ankara's threats. He noted that Turkey "also issues daily threats regarding marine parks and other actions, so I think that at some point a corresponding response must also be voiced by the other side."
Regarding the viability of the project, Keravnos referred to the joint statement issued by the Greek Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, which indicated that the study needs to be updated. It appears that there are economic and technical aspects that need to be reassessed and clarified.
"Therefore, we are awaiting this study," he said, adding that the matter falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Energy and the competent Minister, Michalis Damianos.
