Brussels: The Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nicodemos Damianou, flew to Brussels on Monday to participate in the European Union (EU) Competitiveness Council meeting on research issues.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the agenda includes the approval of conclusions on the EU Strategy for Startups and Scaleups, which aims to strengthen innovation and retain talent in Europe, as well as the approval of the EU Strategy for Life Sciences, a sector of crucial importance for competitiveness, resilience, and the well-being of citizens.
As stated, discussions will also focus on the role of the new program in supporting dual-use and defense technologies. In addition, the European Commission’s new approach to Research and Technology Infrastructures will be discussed, aiming at joint investment initiatives at the EU level to bridge national gaps, particularly in critical technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing (HPC).
On the sidelines of the Council, the Deputy Minister will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts to coordinate and discuss critical issues in view of Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, the press release concluded.
