Washington: The Republic of Cyprus submitted targeted proposals on Thursday to support the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution on Gaza during the inaugural meeting of the Peace Board held in Washington.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos participated in the meeting with observer status. This gathering included representatives from 14 other EU member states and the European Commission, represented by Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica. The focus was on outlining the next steps and monitoring mechanisms for implementing the Peace Agreement and President Trump's Plan, as formalized by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
Ahead of the meeting, Cyprus presented targeted proposals based on a six-point document by President Nikos Christodoulides, aimed at supporting the UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The press release detailed a document listing feasible options for complementary assistance in four key areas: humanitarian aid through the Amaltheia Project, early recovery and infrastructure restoration, security training in collaboration with EU missions, and operational support to the International Stabilization Force.
For enhancing early recovery sustainably, a joint document with UN partner agencies (UNOPS) was submitted. Additionally, a separate proposal for contributing to the International Stabilization Force was put forward, offering six options.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Kombos engaged in discussions with his counterparts and other officials from participating countries. He emphasized the importance of ongoing coordinated international efforts to foster stability and security in the region. He also pointed out the significant role Cyprus can continue to play, given its geographical location and initiatives developed since the onset of the Gaza crisis, as highlighted in the press release.
