Protest march organized by United for Palestine takes place in Nicosia

A protest march over the situation in Palestine and the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, organized by United for Palestine in Cyprus, in cooperation with other organizations, took place on Monday in Nicosia with the participation of approximately 250 people.

According to a spokesperson of the organizers, the event started at 6 pm local time at Ledra Street and included speeches and a theatrical activity, followed by a march to Eleftherias Square. Participants held banners with slogans in support of Palestine’s right to its own state and against the Western powers, the US and the EU, including the Republic of Cyprus, for their “complicity in providing political, diplomatic, economic and military support to Israel.”

The spokesperson said there were no problems or unexpected incidents during the march, which was held in coordination with the Police.

In press release issued about the march, organizers said that the protest, like all previous protests organized by United for Palestine over the past year, “is strictl
y non-violent and peaceful, aiming to challenge the government to either stop being complicit by ending all trade, business and military collaborations, or, to explain to the Cypriot public to the Cypriot public why being complicit in a genocide is in the interest of humanity, in Cyprus and abroad”.

“We therefore demand to end all trade and business deals with Israel, that boycotts, to boycott, divest and sanction Israel and to stop allowing the use of Cypriot ports, airports and airspace to aid Israel militarily,” they stressed.
