Nicosia: World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2025 focuses on the impact of digitalization and artificial intelligence on the safety and health of workers, the Department of Labor Inspection said in a statement.
According to Cyprus News Agency, it pointed out that with proper management, the digital era can lead to a reduction in occupational risks and create new opportunities for improving working conditions. The Department added that digital technologies can enable workers to enjoy higher levels of autonomy and flexibility (e.g., work from home) or facilitate access to the labor market for a more diverse workforce, especially vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and older workers.
But it also points to further exposure of some workers to occupational safety and health risks, such as ergonomic risks and operational risks linked to cybersecurity.
The Department of Labor Inspection also reported that in Cyprus the Occupational Accident Index in 2024 decreased by 2.2% compared to 2023, while five fatal occupational accidents in 2024 compared to 14 in 2023.
