Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos Joins Academia Europaea’s Engineering Section Committee

Nicosia: Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinos, from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus, has been appointed as one of the seven members of the newly established Engineering Section Committee of Academia Europaea. This Committee was established following the decision to divide the former Physics and Engineering Section into two independent sections. The Engineering Section will begin full operation in time for the 2025/2026 activities cycle, and the committee will play a central role in steering its activities.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Academia Europaea (Academy of Europe) is a pan-European network of distinguished scholars, dedicated to the advancement and propagation of excellence in scholarship across various fields, including the humanities, law, economic, social, and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and technological sciences. The Academy promotes European research, advises governments and international organizations on scientific matters, and fosters interdisciplinary and international research collaboration.

An internationally recognized expert in wastewater engineering, Professor Fatta-Kassinos brings a wealth of scientific expertise to this interdisciplinary committee. Her appointment is a recognition of her academic leadership, sustained research excellence, and contributions to environmental engineering. Through her extensive involvement in high-impact research and strategic academic collaborations at both national and international levels, she has played a role in advancing the development and application of innovative environmental technologies. Her selection also reflects Academia Europaea’s commitment to diversity and inclusive representation in its leadership bodies.
