Brussels: Seasonally adjusted production in construction decreased by 1.7% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU in May 2025 compared with April 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the statistical office of the European Union, this decline followed a growth in production in April 2025, where the euro area saw an increase of 4.3% and the EU experienced a rise of 3.5%.
In a year-on-year comparison, May 2025 saw a production increase of 2.9% in the euro area and 2.7% in the EU compared to May 2024. The figures indicate fluctuations in the construction sector, with specific declines observed in various construction activities.
In the euro area for May 2025, the production in construction dropped by 1.3% for building construction, 0.7% for civil engineering, and 1.7% for specialized construction activities. In the EU, the decreases were slightly lower, with building construction down by 0.4%, civil engineering by 0.5%, and specialized construction activities by 1.3%.
The data revealed that among the Member States, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands experienced the largest monthly decreases in construction production, with Germany seeing a significant drop of 3.9%. Conversely, Slovenia, Hungary, and Czechia recorded the highest increases, with Slovenia leading at 5.4%.
