President Outlines Cyprus’ EU Presidency Goals at EPP Congress

Zagreb: The priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, in light of regional and international developments, were outlined by President Nikos Christodoulides during his speech at the European People's Party (EPP) Congress in Zagreb, Croatia.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou stated in a written communication that President Christodoulides, as a key speaker at the Congress, took the opportunity to update his counterparts and EPP members on recent developments concerning the Cyprus issue.

In his address, the President highlighted regional challenges, emphasizing Cyprus's role as an EU Member State with strong ties to neighboring countries. He announced plans to support initiatives under the New Pact for the Mediterranean, aiming to enhance regional economic and security collaboration. A Leaders' Meeting in Cyprus is scheduled for April, coinciding with the informal European Union Summit (EUCO).

On the sidelines of the Congress, President Christodoulides engaged in discussions with EPP President Manfred Weber, the Party's Secretary General Dolores Montserrat, and Spanish People's Party Leader Alberto Feij³o. Additionally, President Christodoulides is set to attend a working dinner hosted by Weber, focusing on "European architecture and the challenges it faces," concluded Antoniou.
