Nicosia: The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, exchanged views Saturday on the role that the European Union can play in supporting the peace process in Gaza.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that President Christodoulides had a telephone conversation with President Costa regarding developments in the Middle East and the agreement on the first phase of the US President’s plan for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.
During the conversation, President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of fully implementing the agreement by all parties involved. He highlighted that this is a crucial step towards peace, security, and stability in the region, as well as towards achieving a two-state solution in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
President Christodoulides and President Costa also discussed the role the European Union can play in supporting the peace process and managing the humanitarian crisis, emphasizing the need for coordinated European action. President Christodoulides pointed out that Cyprus, due to its geographical location and operational capabilities, can continue to serve as a bridge to enhance the Union’s humanitarian efforts and promote European contributions to the region’s reconstruction and stabilization.
