Lisbon: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides embarked on a diplomatic visit to Lisbon on Tuesday morning, where he held a significant meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Lus Montenegro at the Prime Minister’s Office. This visit is part of a broader diplomatic tour as Cyprus prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU in January 2026.
According to Cyprus News Agency, after the initial private meeting, the discussions expanded to include delegations from both countries. The meetings are set to address various priorities of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency, along with other key issues on the European agenda, developments concerning Cyprus, bilateral relations, and the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
Following the talks in Lisbon, President Christodoulides will travel to Valencia to participate in the European People’s Party (EPP) Congress. The EPP Summit will feature elections for new leadership, and leaders from EPP member countries will attend an evening dinner. The summit’s deliberations will continue the following day, with President Christodoulides expected to make an intervention and engage in bilateral talks on the sidelines.
Accompanying the President on his trip are Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Director of the President’s Press Office Victoras Papadopoulos, and other officials. The President is scheduled to return to Cyprus on the evening of April 30.
