President Christodoulides Introduces Support Measures for Breast Cancer Patients

Nicosia:President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides announced a new monthly allowance for vulnerable breast cancer patients, which will be provided during their treatment and for up to 12 months after its completion. Additionally, free transport will be arranged for patients traveling from remote areas in the Nicosia district to oncology centers.

According to Cyprus News Agency, these initiatives were proposed by Europa Donna Cyprus and have been adopted by the state. President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of developing new policies continuously, as promised during his first attendance at the march.

The President highlighted that effective cancer care requires more than just diagnosis; it must also consider the quality and timeliness of treatment, irrespective of the patient‚¬„¢s location or financial status. He stressed the need for a comprehensive approach that includes rehabilitation, psychological support, and assistance for patients re-integrating into their daily lives and work.

He also mentioned the establishment of the National Cancer Institute and the appointment of its initial Board of Directors. This development is expected to play a crucial role in implementing a holistic cancer care approach, which includes prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, research, rehabilitation, and follow-up care.

President Christodoulides described Europa Donna Cyprus as a key partner of the state and expressed optimism about further strengthening their collaboration through the National Cancer Institute. He paid tribute to Stella Kyriakides, a prominent figure in Europa Donna Cyprus and former EU Health Commissioner, recognizing her long-standing efforts in advocating for cancer-affected individuals.

Europa Donna Cyprus, a member of the European Breast Cancer Coalition, is dedicated to supporting patients with breast and gynaecological cancers. The organization focuses on patient rights, raising public awareness, and advocating for prevention, early diagnosis, and optimal treatment, while also pushing for improved education, appropriate screening, and increased research funding.
