Nicosia:President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides emphasized the importance of growing older with dignity, autonomy, and security during a visit to an elderly care home in Nicosia. He noted that the first National Strategy for Active Ageing 2025-2030, along with the 2025-2027 Action Plan, embodies this principle.
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides described active ageing as the creation of conditions that allow older individuals to maintain the lives they choose, remain active within their families and communities, and preserve their autonomy. He stressed that the government's focus extends beyond benefits or services to ensure every person's right to age with dignity, autonomy, and security, with timely support that meets individual needs.
He further highlighted the necessity of financial security in ageing with dignity. The President pointed out significant ongoing social reforms, including the Pension Reform, aimed at providing more adequate and fair pensions, especially for low-income pensioners, and ensuring a sustainable Social Insurance Fund for future generations.
The strategy and action plan for 2025-2030 are designed to link healthy and active ageing with social participation, prevention, education, digital skills, combating discrimination, and accessing services, marking a transformation in Cyprus.
