Nicosia: Pope Francis will always be remembered as a progressive spiritual leader, President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, wrote on Wednesday, in her message in the book of condolences opened by the Embassy of the Holy See in Cyprus after the Pontiff’s death. She also noted that the deceased will also be remembered for his tireless spiritual work.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in her message, Demetriou noted that she was “deeply saddened” by the news of the passing of Pope Francis, adding that “Pope Francis will always be remembered as a progressive spiritual leader, profoundly committed to the fundamental principles of faith, namely love, tolerance and forgiveness, which he served with genuine humility and devotion to his last breath.” She also pointed out that the deceased Pontiff “will also be remembered for his tireless humanitarian work and for upholding social justice.”
“As the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis strived to promote interfaith dialogue, human fraternity and solidarity, acting as an inspiring force for good in an increasingly uncertain world,” House President noted.
She further pointed out that the Pope’s “landmark visit” to Cyprus in 2021 “as only the second Pope in modern history to visit Cyprus, sent a strong message of hope for peace and unity in Cyprus and the wider region and contributed significantly to the strengthening of relations between the Holy See and Cyprus.”
Annita Demetriou also noted that she was “exceptionally honoured to have had the opportunity to meet him and the privilege to exchange views with him on that occasion.”
Finally, she expressed personally and on behalf of all Members of the House of Representatives their deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Holy See and the entire Catholic community across the world.
