Cape greco: The Shipping Deputy Ministry has announced the initiation of a collaborative process with other relevant authorities for the urgent removal of pollutants, debris, and two shipwrecks from the waters of Cape Greco.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Shipping Deputy Ministry emphasized the importance of these actions for the protection of the marine environment and for ensuring safety at sea. A NAVTEX, a navigational warning, has been issued by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre to alert mariners. The removal operations follow a tragic incident on August 29 where two yachts were destroyed off the coast, leading to the death of Limassol-based businessman and former international rally driver, Dimi Mavropoulos.
The Shipping Deputy Ministry expressed its condolences in a press release after a meeting held to address the sinking of the yachts. The Ministry expressed sadness over the loss of Mavropoulos, the owner and operator of the vessel 'PERLA BIANCA', and extended its sympathies to his family and loved ones.
The investigation into the sinking of 'PERLA BIANCA' is being conducted by the Shipping Deputy Ministry in partnership with the Police. Meanwhile, the Marine Accident and Incident Investigation Service will handle the investigation into the sinking of the coastal passenger vessel 'PETSAS I', as mandated by the Investigation of Marine Accidents and Incidents Law.
