Polls Close Across Cyprus and Abroad as Vote Counting Begins

Cyprus: At 6:00 pm Cyprus time, all polling stations closed, both at voting centers across Cyprus, as well as in Athens, Thessaloniki, London, and Brussels. Voting for the religious group of Maronites has also been completed.

According to Cyprus News Agency, despite the time difference in some centers, the Chief Returning Officer, Elikkos Elia, had stated that it was decided all polling stations to close simultaneously. Following the announcement of the closure of the polls, the results of the exit polls are expected to be published.

The final announcement on the total number of voters, along with the final turnout percentages by district and nationwide, is expected shortly. Statements made by the Chief Returning Officer to the Cyprus News Agency indicate that by 9:00 p.m., the parties entering the new Parliament and the number of seats they will hold are expected to be known. By 2:00 a.m. Monday morning, the names of the 56 new members of parliament are expected to be announced.
