Petros Nacouzi Elected as New Maronite Religious Group Representative

Nicosia: Petros Nacouzi was elected on Sunday as the new representative of the Maronite Religious Group in the House of Representatives. According to Cyprus News Agency, an official announcement stated that out of 4,624 registered voters, 3,186 participated in the election, marking a turnout of 68.90%. There were 1,438 abstentions, accounting for 31.10% of the electorate. Of the cast ballots, 3,125 or 98.09% were deemed valid, while 34 or 1.07% were invalid, and 27 or 0.84% were left blank. Marios Mavrides garnered 1,519 votes, which is 48.61% of the total, while Petros Nacouzi secured 1,606 votes, representing 51.39%. Based on these results, Nacouzi is appointed as the Representative of the Maronite Religious Group in the House of Representatives of Cyprus. His official proclamation is scheduled to occur today at 12 noon at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. The representatives for the Latin and Armenian religious groups were elected without opposition.
