Pafos FC Are the Champions of Cyprus

Pafos: Pafos F.C. clinched the Cypriot First Division Championship for the first time in the club’s history on Sunday, securing a decisive 4-0 victory over Aris at ‘Stelios Kyriakides’ stadium in Pafos. This triumph took place during the eighth matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan play-offs.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the team, led by Juan Carlos Carcedo, amassed a total of 78 points, while Alexei Spilevski’s Aris remained at 71 points. The goals for the victorious ‘blues’ were scored by Correa in the 9th minute, Dragomir in the 37th, Zairo in the 51st, and Orsic in the 82nd minute.

Sunday’s match marked Pafos F.C.’s 25th win out of 34 matches this season, helping them to reach 78 points compared to Aris’ 71. The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) announced in a press release that Pafos F.C. is the 12th different team to win the A’ Division Championship, and notably, the first from the Pafos district to claim the title.

It is highlighted that Pafos F.C. is the fifth different team to win the A’ Division Championship in the past five years, following champions such as Omonia Nicosia in 2021, Apollon in 2022, Aris in 2023, and APOEL in 2024. The inaugural champion of the league was Trust Youth Union in 1935, with other notable winners including APOEL with 29 titles, Omonia with 21, and Anorthosis with 13, among others.
