Nicosia: Oman has reiterated its full support for Cyprus in achieving a resolution to the Cyprus issue in line with United Nations resolutions.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Nicosia issued a press release on the occasion of Oman’s National Day, emphasizing the strong bilateral relations between Oman and Cyprus. These relations have seen significant development in recent years, with collaborations spanning various fields.
This year, the strengthening of ties was marked by the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding in areas such as health, transport, and maritime affairs. These agreements underscore the commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.
The Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed its support for Cyprus in reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Cyprus issue, promoting security and stability in accordance with international law. Oman expressed its wishes for Cyprus’s success during its forthcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in early 2026.
Oman maintains a diplomatic approach based on positive neutrality, dialogue, and respect for the UN Charter. The Sultanate advocates for peaceful dispute resolution without interference in the internal matters of other states.
Economically, Oman has aimed to diversify by expanding non-oil commodity exports, which now represent 30% of its economy. The nation’s GDP has increased by 1.7% from the previous year, reaching RO 10.171 billion. The OMAN 2040 Vision outlines plans to develop public sectors such as education, healthcare, and environmental affairs.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, following Turkey’s invasion and occupation of its northern region. UN-led peace talks have yet to produce results, largely due to Turkish intransigence. In 2025, informal meetings and negotiations continued under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy on Cyprus, Mara Angela Holgun. Additionally, Johannes Hahn, a former European Commissioner, is expected to contribute to the settlement process in collaboration with Holgun.
