Nicosia: President Nikos Christodoulides reiterated Cyprus’ principled position that no solution can be imposed on Ukraine, during a videoconference of the Coalition of the Willing on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides participated in the Coalition of the Willing videoconference on Ukraine, which followed Monday’s European Council videoconference, also attended by the Cyprus President, emphasizing the importance of unity and strategic convergence within the European family.
During the discussions, President Christodoulides noted that the Republic of Cyprus welcomes the diplomatic engagement of the United States in efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine, as well as Washington’s ongoing consultations with Ukraine and European partners.
President Christodoulides reiterated the Republic of Cyprus’ principled position that no solution can be imposed on Ukraine. He emphasized that issues directly concerning the European Union must be the result of collective deliberation and institutional decision-making within the Union itself.
He added that President Christodoulides reaffirmed Cyprus’ full respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, a position aligned with Cyprus’ own historical experience and long-standing principles.
The President also underlined the need for a decisive response to attempts by third countries, particularly NATO member states, to circumvent EU and US sanctions. The credibility and effectiveness of the international sanctions framework depend on common stance, transparency, and consistency by all involved, the Spokesperson said.
