Nicosia Hosts High Level Conference on AI, Innovation and Digital Policy

Nicosia: A high level conference on "Shaping the Next Digital Frontier" concluded Thursday in Nicosia in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Conference, that was organised by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and researchers and focused on shaping the future of digital transformation in Europe and beyond.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nikodemos Damianou, opened the Conference, while an online greeting was delivered by Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, who focused on the importance of European competitiveness and strategic autonomy in the modern digital reality.

In addition, the results of the State of the Digital Decade Report 2026 were presented by Deputy Director-General of DG CNECT of the European Commission, Renate Nikolay, while the Minister of Business, Tourism and Employment of Ireland-which assumes the next Presidency of the Council of the EU-referred to the strong interconnection of competitiveness, resilience and European values with the digital transformation.

Other issues discussed included connectivity, digital infrastructure and new generation networks, as well as cybersecurity, the Cybersecurity Act and policies that can strengthen digital trust.
