Negative Inflation Observed in October 2025 Amid Economic Fluctuations

Nicosia: Inflation in October 2025 decreased at a rate of 0.3%, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Thursday. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October 2025 saw an increase of 0.54 points, reaching 118.25 units compared to 117.71 units in September 2025.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the largest positive change in the economic categories when compared with October 2024 was noted in Services, which saw a 3% increase. Conversely, the most significant negative changes were observed in Electricity, which fell by 7.5%, and Agricultural Products, which decreased by 2.6%. When compared with September 2025, the largest change was recorded in Electricity, which increased by 1.7%.

In terms of percentage changes, Restaurants and Hotels saw an increase of 4.4%, and Education rose by 3.5% when compared to October 2024. Meanwhile, Clothing and Footwear and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages experienced decreases of 6.7% and 2.1%, respectively. Compared to September 2025, Clothing and Footwear increased by 3.6%, and Education rose by 1.2%.

For the period from January to October 2025, compared with the same period of the previous year, notable increases were recorded in Restaurants and Hotels (4.7%), Education (3.7%), and Recreation and Culture (3.3%). Clothing and Footwear experienced the largest decrease at 6.2%.

According to the Statistical Service, the largest positive impact on the change of the CPI in October 2025, compared to October 2024, was recorded in the categories of Restaurants and Hotels (0.48) and Education (0.16). The most significant negative impact was recorded in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.52) and Clothing and Footwear (-0.51).

When comparing October 2025 to September 2025, Clothing and Footwear (0.25) and Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels (0.12) had the largest impact on the change of the CPI. Catering Services recorded the largest positive impact on the year-on-year CPI change at 0.50, while Clothing (-0.43) and Electricity (-0.43) had the largest negative impacts.

Clothing had the largest positive impact (0.17) on the month-on-month CPI change, while Fresh Fruits had the largest negative impact (-0.15).
