Mobile Desalination Units En Route to Cyprus Following Deal with UAE

Dubai: Mobile desalination units are on their way to Cyprus, following the signing of a bilateral arrangement on Thursday in Dubai between the Republic of Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates. The deal aims to enhance the island’s water supply capacity amid increasing concerns over sufficient water supplies.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the deal was signed by Cyprus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, and the UAE’s Assistant Minister for Development Affairs and International Organizations, Sultan Al Shamsi. The units, once operational, will increase Cyprus’ daily desalinated water production by 15,000 cubic meters.

Welcoming the development in a post on the social media platform X, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides spoke of a ‘strategic Cyprus-UAE cooperation with tangible results.’

The Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to the UAE authorities for their swift response to Cyprus’ request, underlining the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries. The Minister also highlighted that the cooperation demonstrates both countries’ commitment to initiatives with real impact on citizens’ daily lives.

According to official sources, the shipment of the mobile units is already underway. Additionally, a team of specialized engineers from the UAE is expected to arrive in Cyprus next week to coordinate the technical aspects of installation and activation.
