Luxembourg: Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection Dr. Nicholas Ioannides is travelling to Luxembourg on Thursday to participate in the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council taking place on Friday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the EU Ministers will discuss return policies during the working lunch, with particular emphasis on strengthening cooperation with third countries.
The Ministers are also expected to exchange views on the recent proposal for a regulation on returns and on the progress in the implementation of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS). The Council will also debate on the issue of the protection of displaced persons from Ukraine, with Ministers expected to reach a political agreement on the extension of the temporary protection by one year, until March 2027.
Ministers will further discuss the proposal for a Council Recommendation on the future course of the temporary protection status, examining the options and next steps during this transitional period. Additional
ly, in Luxembourg, the Deputy Minister will attend an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Schengen Agreement, co-organised by Luxembourg and the EU Polish Presidency. Ioannides returns home Friday evening.
