MED9 Leaders and King of Jordan Sign Joint Statement on Middle East Conflicts

Slovenia: MED9 leaders and King of Jordan Abdullah convened in Slovenia and signed a joint statement addressing ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, while emphasizing Jordan’s significant role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the MED9 leaders praised Jordan as a dependable partner and highlighted its contribution as a stabilizing force in the region. The leaders applauded the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace and the signing of a ceasefire agreement, hostage, and humanitarian deal in Gaza. They stressed the necessity of implementing all phases of the ceasefire agreement and urged all involved parties to adhere fully to the terms to conclude the conflict in Gaza and avoid actions that might threaten the agreement.

The statement also emphasized the need for EU involvement in the Board of Peace, acknowledging the EU’s longstanding support for comprehensive peace initiatives. In addressing the humanitarian crisis, the leaders underscored the critical role of UNRWA and reiterated their commitment to support the agency in aiding 5.9 million Palestinian refugees. They also highlighted the importance of land corridors and other routes, including the Cyprus Maritime Corridor, in addressing humanitarian needs in Gaza.

The leaders reaffirmed their dedication to achieving a lasting peace through a two-state solution based on international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions. They called on all parties to avoid actions that could undermine this solution.

The statement further expressed support for Lebanon’s stability and the role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), while calling for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and the full implementation of Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement of November 2024.

For Syria, the leaders confirmed their support for the country’s reconstruction efforts aimed at ensuring security, stability, unity, and sovereignty. They advocated for an inclusive political process that honors the rights and aspirations of Syrians. The MED9 countries also backed the roadmap proposed by Jordan, Syria, and the United States to resolve the crisis in Suwayda and stabilize Southern Syria, acknowledging Jordan’s efforts in this regard.
