Brussels: In 2024, a significant majority of young people in the EU consider themselves to be in good or very good health.
According to Cyprus News Agency, this data was published to mark International Youth Day, observed every year on 12 August, bringing youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrating the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society.
It said that 90.1% of individuals aged 16 to 29 reported positive health perceptions, a figure notably higher than the 68.4% observed across the entire population over 16 years of age.
Among this youth demographic, young men slightly outpaced young women in their self-assessment of health, with 91.0% of men versus 89.2% of women rating their health as good or very good.
Income levels also play a role in health perception as data shows that higher income correlates with better self-reported health.
In the EU in 2024, 86.7% of young people in the lowest income group viewed their health positively, compared to 94.0% in the highest income group, highlighting a clear link between income and health perceptions among young Europeans.
