Nicosia: Seasonal low pressure and an unstable air mass are forecasted to bring local showers and thunderstorms to Cyprus, according to Meteorological Department official Panayiotis Mouskos. He informed the Cyprus News Agency on Friday that these weather conditions are expected primarily in the mountainous regions during early afternoon, with the possibility of isolated storms occurring inland as well.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Mouskos noted that while the storms would be highly localized, they could be intense and might include hail. Winds are anticipated to reach four to five on the Beaufort scale, though temperatures will likely remain around the seasonal averages.
The Meteorological Department's forecast indicates that similar weather conditions will persist over the August 15 weekend. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoons, predominantly in mountainous and inland areas. There is also a possibility of hail during thunderstorms.
Saturday's forecast predicts increased cloud cover, with isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly in the mountainous, inland regions, and possibly in the east. Temperatures are expected to reach around 38 degrees Celsius inland, 30 degrees on the west coast, 33 degrees on other coastal areas, and 27 degrees in higher mountainous areas.
For Sunday, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are projected to occur after midday, chiefly in mountainous and inland regions, with potential hail. Monday's weather is expected to be partly cloudy, with possible isolated morning showers in western areas. Local showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop after midday, mainly in the mountains and the eastern half of the island.
Further local showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated for Tuesday afternoon, mainly affecting mountainous and inland areas. Temperatures are expected to decrease slightly on Sunday and stay at similar levels through Tuesday, slightly below the seasonal averages.
