Limassol: The fire in Limassol has reached the outskirts of Kyvides and Souni, impacting homes and posing serious challenges for firefighting teams, as reported by Fire Service Spokesperson Andreas Kettis to CNA. The situation remains precarious as efforts continue to safeguard the affected areas.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the communities of Agios Amvrosios, Kyvides, and Souni are undergoing evacuation procedures. Authorities have urged residents to refrain from using private vehicles to access these areas, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Concurrently, police are working to evacuate 36 residents from Lofos, an area where the fire is advancing uncontrollably.
Community council president Giannos Neophytou informed CNA that despite advance warnings, some residents remained in Lofos, which is now encircled by flames. He noted that the police dispatched a bus from Agios Amvrosios, even before that community faced any direct threat, to facilitate the evacuation of these residents. The 36 individuals on the bus are awaiting police escort to be transported to safety.
