Nicosia: An investigation has already begun to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fire that broke out yesterday at the Kalo Chorio firing range of the National Guard and spread to the surrounding area, Major Sofianos Philippides, Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, told CNA on Tuesday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, "An investigation is underway now as we speak," Major Philippides said, adding that the investigation is expected to be completed in about ten days. Furthermore, he noted that all necessary measures are being taken depending on any activity carried out by the National Guard.
Regarding Monday's incident, he said that at the end of the ongoing investigation, it will become clear whether there are any shortcomings and weaknesses to improve the situation.
He recalled that following Monday's activity of the National Guard units in the Kalo Chorio firing range, a fire was caused and said that Minister of Defence Vasilis Palmas, in his statements, clearly stated his position and immediately gave instructions for an investigation to be conducted in order to establish the exact circumstances that led to the situation.
