Our duty and commitment is to determine the fate of all the missing persons of the Turkish invasion, Anna Aristotelous, Head of Humanitarian Affairs of the Missing and Enclaved Persons said on Sunday, adding that we must remain faithful to our principles and values, fighting for freedom with all the means at our disposal.
In her speech at the National Memorial for those fallen during the 1974 Turkish invasion and for a service for those still missing, which takes place at the initiative of Frenaros Municipal District, in Famagusta District, Aristotelous said that the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides has placed the issue of missing persons among his high priorities, strongly supporting every effort to determine the fate of all the missing persons and stands by the families of the heroes and missing persons, recognising their sacrifice.
Our duty, she continued, “is on the one hand to continue to work and commit ourselves to this, with all our strength, so that the fate of all our missing perso
ns can be determined and, at the same time, to remain faithful to the principles and values that led our heroes to the Pantheon of the immortals, fighting with all the means at our disposal for freedom”.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory. Since then, the fate of hundreds of people remains unknown.
