Nicosia: An Informal Meeting of EU Culture Ministers is set to take place in Cyprus on June 1-2, as part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026. The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the event will begin with the arrival of ministers in Cyprus on Monday, followed by guided visits to several museums in Nicosia. The programme is designed to include two roundtable sessions. These sessions will feature keynote interventions and allow for an exchange of views among the participants. The first session will delve into policy approaches aimed at safeguarding culture as a democratic public good, with a particular focus on cultural rights, creativity, and artificial intelligence.
In the second session, the participants will examine challenges arising from armed conflicts and legislative approaches to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property. The meeting aims to foster a collaborative approach to address these pressing issues within the EU cultural landscape.
