Industrial Production Sees Growth in August and Over First Eight Months of 2025

Nicosia: The Industrial Production Index in August this year reached 91.1 units (base 2021=100), marking an increase of 0.8% compared to August 2024.

According to Cyprus News Agency, for the period January – August 2025, the index recorded an increase of 2.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The manufacturing sector saw an increase of 1.7% compared to August 2024. There was an observed rise in water supply and materials recovery by 3.3%. However, negative changes were noted in mining and quarrying, which decreased by 2.8%, and the electricity supply sector, which fell by 2.6%.

Within the manufacturing sector, notable positive changes compared to August 2024 included an 11.8% increase in the manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products, an 8.6% rise in the manufacturing of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture, and a 4.8% growth in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products. Conversely, significant negative changes were seen in the manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products, which dropped by 11.1%, and in paper and paper products and printing, which decreased by 10.5%.

Comparing the rates of change for January – August 2025 with the same period in the previous year, significant positive changes were reported in the manufacturing of other non-metallic mineral products, which increased by 8.4%, water collection, treatment and supply, which grew by 7.8%, and the manufacturing of wood and products of wood and cork, except furniture, which rose by 7.7%. Other areas that saw growth included the manufacturing of basic metals and fabricated metal products, rubber and plastic products, and furniture, other manufacturing and repair and installation of machinery and equipment.

The areas experiencing the most significant negative changes in production compared to the period January – August 2024 were in the manufacturing of paper and paper products and printing, which saw a decline of 13.3%, the manufacturing of textiles, wearing apparel and leather products, which fell by 5.8%, and electricity supply, which decreased by 2.7%.
